What is Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM)?

Frequency Specific Microcurrent Therapy (FSM) is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level electrical currents, often at specific frequencies, to promote healing, reduce pain, and improve various physiological functions. This therapy is based on the principle that specific frequencies of electrical current resonate with particular tissues or conditions in the body, encouraging recovery and optimal function.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent or FSM was developed in 1995 as a way of treating muscle and nerve pain by using frequencies found on a list that came with a medical device developed in 1922 and applying them with a two-channel microcurrent device.

Medical and osteopathic physicians in the US and the UK began experimenting with electrical therapies and frequencies in the late 1800’s. By 1922 there were thousands of physicians using frequency devices to treat a great number of conditions. The research and methods were recorded in books and journals such a Electromedical Digest and physicians shared their research, results and findings at meetings of groups such as the Pathometric and Electromedical Societies.

Benefits of FSM

  • Pain Relief: Effective for conditions like fibromyalgia, nerve pain, and musculoskeletal injuries.

  • Reduced Inflammation: Calms inflamed tissues and accelerates the healing process.

  • Tissue Repair: Supports the repair of damaged tissues, scars, or adhesions.

  • Improved Range of Motion: Particularly beneficial after injuries or surgeries.

  • Stress Relief: Balances the nervous system, reducing stress and improving emotional well-being.

  • Conditions that can be treated: Shingles, Burns, Kidney Stones, Asthma, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Disc Injuries, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes-Related Neuropathy, Concussions, Headaches, Sports Injuries, & much more.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent Frequently Asked Questions

What is Frequency Specific Microcurrent Therapy?

FSM is like a gentle nudge to your body’s natural healing system. It uses tiny electrical currents, similar to what your nerves already use, to target sore spots. This nudge can help reduce pain, inflammation, and even speed up healing from injuries.

How does FSM Therapy work?

During Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) therapy, a healthcare provider uses a specialized device to deliver an extremely mild electrical current to targeted areas of your body—just one-millionth of an ampere. This level of current is very safe and mirrors the natural electrical currents produced by your own cells.

FSM works by applying specific frequencies tailored to the tissue being treated, promoting natural healing and pain relief. These frequencies are selected based on the type of tissue or condition, making the treatment highly customized.

One key mechanism of FSM is its potential to boost the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the primary energy source for cellular functions. Injured tissues can see up to a 500% increase in ATP production, accelerating recovery. Additionally, FSM may help relax and soften tight muscles, reducing pain and stiffness for improved comfort and mobility.

What should I expect in a FSM Therapy Session? Is it painful?

A trained practitioner selects specific frequencies tailored to the patient’s condition and applies the current using moistened towels or adhesive skin patches. The microcurrents used in FSM are so gentle that patients often do not feel them. However, some may experience a warming sensation or a softening of the treated tissue. The treatment is completely non-invasive and painless.

How long do the effects of an FSM treatment last?

The duration of pain relief from FSM treatment varies based on the condition and your pain level, with effects often lasting several days or longer. For acute injuries, the treatment frequently provides lasting relief.

How long are the sessions?

NEED ANSWER

Are there any situations in which FSM should not be used?

FSM treatment is not suitable for everyone. It is generally not recommended for:

  • Individuals with pacemakers.

  • Those with implanted pumps.

  • Pregnant individuals.

  • People with uncontrolled seizures.

Additionally, certain frequencies should be avoided in cases of acute infections, new scar tissue (within six weeks), and acute fractures. Be sure to discuss any of these concerns with your healthcare provider before starting treatment.

What are the risks & side effects of FSM treatment?

The side effects of FSM treatments are usually very rare and mild. If you do experience side effects, they could include:

  • Nausea

  • Lightheaded

  • Drowsiness
